Let’s clarify one simple thing. We all know a LOT of things are changed with Harvest Moon series, but this is not a good reason to be mean under our posts or, in some cases, to the admins. Here a brief description of what happened Even if I’m pretty sure most of you already know. Because the title Harvest Moon was created by, marketed, and owned by Natsume, Marvelous could not simply name their game “Harvest Moon” as it had been the case in the past. The company selected “Story of Seasons” as the title for its now self-published series. I personally gave almost 20 years of my life to this series.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is the first game in the longrunning Harvest Moon series to feature same-sex marriage. That said, there is a catch. While the English language version of the game allows the player to marry a partner of any gender, this is absent from the Japanese version.
A remake of GBA title Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town / Harvest Moon: the North American release date for Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town.
One of the optional things you can do in this game is get married. Marriage does not affect the game’s storyline or unlock any special blueprints or animals, but it does allow you to have someone to send out foraging for items. The two of you can also produce children after you’ve wed. Marriage candidate choices will be determined based on your gender, and there are six available to choose from.
While you can change the appearance characteristics of your playable character, you can’t change its gender after you have selected it when beginning the game. If you want to marry a specific person, then you will want to select the opposite gender of the person you wish to marry when starting the game. To marry a person, you will need to meet several requirements: be at a red flower friendship level, see the person’s four flower events, upgrade your house size, and then give him or her the Blue Feather.
The available marriage candidates will typically have colored flowers on their character portraits when you talk to them. These colors will indicate your friendship level with the individual. Licorice and Kamil are the only marriage candidates that do not have friendship flowers, as they are meant to be more challenging. To determine their friendship level, you can stand next to them and press the Left Shoulder button on your 3DS.

The Story of Seasons video game series was originally produced by Victor Interactive Software acquired by Marvelous Entertainment in , with Natsume handling the English translation and distribution in North America. Several titles have been re-released on multiple platforms as special editions which include an updated gameplay. According to Yasuhiro Wada, Story of Seasons ‘ lead designer, it has been the development team’s response to the audience’s requests which has allowed the series to maintain its popularity.
Due to Natsume keeping the rights to the Harvest Moon name when Marvelous decided to have their own American division, Xseed Games , take over North American distribution, the newer titles in the series had to be renamed to Story of Seasons while Natsume took the opportunity to start their own Harvest Moon series of similar games starting with Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. This has reportedly caused some degree of confusion among players and fans of the series. There are 14 spin-off games under the Harvest Moon series featuring related elements or characters.

It essentially took Harvest Moon 64 —which is arguably the best Harvest Moon in the franchise—and condensed it into a pocket-sized package that was big on content. Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town , follows the same story as the original, with some minor differences. Rather than being a boy or girl who finds a farm while vacationing in the country; now the farm belonged to your late grandfather—following in traditional, classic Harvest Moon fashion—and upon visiting it after his passing, memories of the wonderful times in Mineral Town begin to flood back, and you take it upon yourself to fix up the farm, which has fallen into disrepair.
And I have to admit, I kind of love how Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town connects the player to the story in a kind-of meta way; maintaining the story of the original, while also giving fans who loved and grew up with the original a little nostalgic nod. Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is as perfect a recreation of the original as you can imagine. Unlike the last Story of Seasons I played, which streamlined a lot of the farming gameplay, Friends of Mineral Town returns to the series core fundamentals of gameplay and improves upon them by implementing many quality of life improvements.
In addition to the characters, Friends of Mineral Town also adds rabbits and Alpacas as animals you can care for. But the biggest addition is the inclusion of same-sex marriage options. It creates this weird disconnect where animations feel like they move too quickly as if the game just wants to be done with them.
